Chasing Up After A Job Interview

When you have effectively navigated your way through a new job interview, you may well believe that all the work has ended. You are able to breathe a massive sigh of relief and merely hang on to hear back from the job interviewer. Unfortunately, in this very cut-throat marketplace, complacency can be dangerous!  If you want to secure that job vacancy, then you need to take a positive approach.

You’ll want to consider that while you are searching for a job, you are in reality a sales rep. You are selling yourself!  No salesperson worth his or her salt would actually walk out of a business meeting not understanding what the subsequent stage in the transaction or negotiation is going to be.  You must do the same. Do not ever leave a job interview without asking questions concerning exactly what happens next. You will not be considered presumptuous; the truth is, the interviewer may well award you additional points for having a positive approach.

Ask if there are plans for a deeper round of selection interviews, or perhaps whether any testing will be expected. Inquire as to when the organization aims to make a decision – at least then you are not kept wondering if today is the day you hear back.

Attempt to write down as many particulars as possible. It’s a good plan to obtain the name of the interviewer, as well as his or her particular position within the firm. That way, after the interview, you can mail him or her a note to thank them for the chance of an meeting, and repeat the real interest you have in their organization. Alternatively, ask for the interviewer’s email address.  Then drop him or her a quick and courteous email of thanks for his or her time. By asking good follow-up questions at and after the job interview. you’re showing a genuine interest in the vacancy and showing an eagerness to work. It will leave an enduring, positive impression on the interviewer.  And that’s what you want to do!
